Hyderabad: The rise in prices of two-wheelers and higher rates of transportation of goods in autorickshaws are driving the demand for motorcycles and scooters in the city.

According to sources, motorcycles or scooters without any documents are sold at a price between Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000, depending on the model and condition of the vehicle. However, the only thing the seller will not inform is that the vehicle has been stolen.

Mohammad Aamir, a scooter mechanic, said: “The seller will offer some other excuse, like documents are not available or he wants to mortgage due to medical emergency, etc.”

The sale of these types of stolen vehicles is very high in Tallabatta, Falaknuma Vattepalli, Fatimanagar, Hasannagar, Singareni Colony, Tegalakunta, Shaheennagar, Ghousenagar, Borabanda and some other areas of marginal neighbourhood. Identifying and tracing a stolen vehicle is a difficult task in a city with approximately 90 lakh vehicles.
