Hyderabad: Plan to open toll free number to deal with the problem of stray dogs
Hyderabad: Following the tragic death of a two-year-old child who was attacked and killed by stray dogs in Jawahar Nagar, Hyderabad, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy directed officials to take immediate measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future. He asked officials to set up a call centre or toll-free number so that citizens can report stray dog menace and ensure prompt action.
The Chief Minister directed officials to implement comprehensive measures to tackle the stray dog menace. He suggested the formation of an expert committee to understand and address the root causes of these attacks. The committee will comprise representatives from voluntary organisations, veterinarians and Blue Cross who will be tasked to study the seasonal or environmental factors that contribute to stray dog aggression towards children.
Revanth Reddy also asked officials to ensure vaccination of stray dogs and explore best practices from other states. He directed the Medical and Health Department to ensure that the necessary medicines for dog bites are readily available in all urban health centres, primary health centres and hospitals across the state. He asked the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and municipal officials to take proactive steps by working in close coordination with local residents and communities to prevent such tragic incidents.
