Hyderabad: Doctors saved physiotherapist’s leg

Hyderabad: Surgeons of NASA Hospitals, LB Nagar, on Monday announced they have successfully treated a 32-year-old physiotherapist who was on the verge of losing his right limb due to lower limb ischemia by arterial thrombosis, a serious medical condition where there is a lack of blood flow to the leg due to a blood clot.

The patient’s condition progressed rapidly from back pain and numbness to complete sensory and motor loss in his right leg, requiring emergency hospitalisation. Dr Naveen Kumar Venigalla, Clinical Director, Neurology, managed the delicate task of preserving the nerve function of the limb.

With timely intervention and rehabilitation, nerve damage to the right limb was minimised, Dr Rakesh Venuturumilli, Head, Critical Care and Anaesthesia, who led the intensive care team, said. The patient is on the path to recovery and is preparing to return to clinical practice.
