Hyderabad: 3,750 kg of fake cotton seeds seized, man arrested

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Special Operations Team (SOT) conducted a joint operation with Shamirpet police and agriculture department officials and busted a fake cotton seed racket on Wednesday night and arrested one person. The officials seized 3,750 kg of fake cotton seeds and a truck, worth a total of Rs 98.7 lakh. The arrested person was identified as S Naresh, a truck driver from Mancherial district. The absconding suspects include Suresh from Mancherial and Ramana from Karnataka.
According to the police, Suresh had hired Naresh to transport the banned (BG-III) cotton seeds from Ramana to Mancherial. He was paid Rs 50,000 for the job. The duo wanted to make easy money and were planning to sell the banned seeds to farmers in Mancherial district. Based on a tip-off, the truck was intercepted at Thumukunta village in Shamirpet and Naresh was arrested. The fake seeds and the truck were seized and handed over to Shamirpet police for further investigation.
