Hundreds of trees fall during summer rains

Bengaluru: Over the past week, nearly 400 trees were uprooted across the city during summer showers, blocking several roads and leaving many people stranded inside their homes.
The forest wing of BBMP is at its wit’s end attending to complaints about tree-falls. BLG Swamy, BBMP’s deputy conservator of forests, said, “Normally, rain in Bengaluru is free of strong gusty winds.
But of late, there have been seasons marked by strong winds, leading to uprooting of trees. Besides, there are physical changes with linear growth, as larger crowns with smaller trunks pose threat to their (trees’) stability.”
