Raipur. Protests are taking place across the country against the Motor Vehicle Act amendment. Truck, bus and auto drivers have also gone on strike in Chhattisgarh. Petrol and diesel tanker drivers are on strike for the last two days. Because of this, private petrol pumps have almost dried up in the entire state. People are returning from the petrol pump. Those who got to know about the strike earlier, got more petrol than required. According to the information, petrol is available only in Police’s Aastha Pump in Raipur. Where long queues of drivers were seen.
Due to the drivers’ strike, the wheels of buses stopped in Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Jagdalpur, Bhanupratappur, Mahasamund and Surguja and other districts. Due to which the passengers had to face problems. The truck was parked on the highway and blocked. Protested by running a tire on the road. The government was demanded to withdraw the law.
Truck drivers in Chhattisgarh will continue their strike on Tuesday also. Due to this strike the supply of vegetables and milk will be affected. Vegetables will become expensive. Its effect is visible on petrol pumps. According to the report, two lakh trucks run in the state. In which 5 lakh drivers and helpers work. Other employees also work there. The protests will also affect employment.
- If an accused driver causes death in a manner that does not amount to culpable homicide, he can face a maximum jail term of 5 years along with fine.
- If a driver causes death of any person by careless or negligent driving and runs away, and also does not report the incident to any police officer or magistrate after the incident, he will be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to 10 years. Will have to face jail. As per existing law, accused in hit-and-run cases are prosecuted under Section 304A, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 2 years.
