Hot Summer Sparks Massive Quick Commerce Orders for Ice Creams & Drinks
The country is sweltering. People are reeling under record-breaking temperatures. City dwellers are relying on quick commerce platforms to get relief from the intense heat. With this, orders for cooling and hydration products have increased exponentially for companies like Swiggy Instamart, Zepto, and Flipkart Minutes. Leading quick commerce company Swiggy Instamart has seen a huge increase in sales.
Insta Mart said that compared to the last week of March, sales of seasonal products have increased by four times. In particular, sales of cold coffee and mangoes have increased by 10 times. Along with ice cream, soft drinks, watermelons, mangoes and yogurt, there has been a huge demand. While Bengaluru alone accounts for 14 percent of the country’s ice cream sales, it ranks first with a share of one-third of mango orders. After Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad are the cities. Swiggy said that sales of products like jeera masala soda have also increased by 10 times.
On the other hand, there is a strong demand for ice creams, sunscreen, instant drink mixes, talcum powder, etc. on the Zepto platform. The company said that fans and umbrellas have also become essential items to protect against heat. Flipkart Minutes also reported a similar trend. Hydration drinks have been sold 12 times, swimwear 8 times, aerated drinks 2.5 times, and insect repellents have more than doubled. Amazon Now and Tata Group’s BigBasket are also following the same path. Ice cream sales on BigBasket have grown by 100 percent compared to last year. Buttermilk, lassi, soft drinks, fans, coconut water, and mangoes have seen double-digit growth.
The demand is being driven by the India Meteorological Department’s warning that the number of heatwave days will increase significantly in many parts of the country. With temperatures not even dropping at night, people are turning to products that provide 24-hour cooling for relief. This trend is evident in metropolitan cities like Delhi and Hyderabad as well as smaller cities like Kochi and Madurai.
