Hoshiarpur: Road widening work is at the top of DC’s priorities

Jalandhar: The district administration has listed its priorities for the development works to be carried out this year for the benefit of Jalandharites. The priorities of the administration were listed by Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Aggarwal.

Completion of Lumma Pind-Jandu Singha Road

Top of his development agenda for Jalandhar is the four-laning of Lumma Pind-Jandu Singha Road, which is a bottleneck for commuters between Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur. The scheme is part of Phase-3 of the Urban Environment Improvement Programme (UEIP), which is underway at a cost of Rs 53.23 crore through the Punjab Infrastructure Development Board.

Widening of Hoshiarpur Road

The next task on the administration’s agenda is the widening and strengthening of the Jalandhar-Hoshiarpur Road at Adampur, work on which has been pending for the last six years. Due to the land acquisition scam, PUDA has not been able to complete a major part of the project in Adampur, which includes the construction of a flyover and service lane. Of the total 39 km long road, 14 km falls in Jalandhar and the rest in Hoshiarpur and this is the route through which a large number of devotees visit religious places like Chintpurni, Chamunda Devi and Jwalaji. The state government has released Rs 13.74 crore.

Easy connectivity to the airport

The administration’s plans also include the construction of a 4.3 km long approach road to ease connectivity to the Adampur civil airport. The administration has met Adampur Civil Airport Director Pushpendra Kumar Nirala and sought an early resolution of the issue of providing good road connectivity to the airport. The concerned departments have been asked to expedite land acquisition for the approach road. There is also a plan to install proper signage along the airport road.

e-NRI Milani soon

The administration’s next plan is to launch the NRI Milani portal. The portal was to be launched by NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Dhaliwal on December 28, but the event was postponed due to the demise of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The administration claims that this will be a unique portal through which NRIs will be able to get their matters resolved while sitting on foreign soil.

Beautification of Burlton Park

Jalandhar administration, Municipal Corporation, PWD and Horticulture Department are jointly handling the project of development and beautification of Burlton Park. This project worth Rs 65 lakh includes installation of floodlights, practice nets, pavilion, washrooms, changing rooms, lockers etc. for night practice of cricket players. Players coming to the park for practice sessions of cricket, hockey and other sports have been demanding facilities for years.
