Horrific road accident on NH-16 in Odisha

Odisha: A tragic road accident occurred on National Highway (NH) 16 in Odisha’s capital region today, killing three people, including a woman. The accident occurred in the evening on an overbridge near the Fire Station Square, when a speeding truck struck two two-wheeled vehicles from behind.

According to police, the accident occurred when a motorcycle and a scooter were traveling at a normal speed on the overbridge. A speeding truck coming from behind struck both vehicles. The impact was so severe that both vehicles were severely damaged and chaos erupted at the scene.

Four people were seriously injured in the accident. Police and fire brigade teams immediately arrived at the scene and rushed the injured to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared three of them dead during treatment.

Police stated that a woman was among the deceased, while the fourth injured person is undergoing treatment at the hospital and is reported to be in critical condition. The process of identifying the deceased is ongoing.

The truck driver fled the scene after the accident. Police stated that a search operation has been launched to seize the truck and identify the driver. Footage from nearby CCTV cameras is being examined to identify the truck and driver.

Traffic was briefly disrupted in the area after the incident, but was later brought under control by police. Locals reported that the overbridge is often prone to accidents due to speeding vehicles.

Police officials stated that the incident is being investigated and initially appears to be a case of speeding and reckless driving. All aspects of the accident are being investigated, and the driver responsible will be arrested soon.

This tragic accident has once again raised serious questions about road safety and traffic rules. The administration has appealed to the public to drive carefully on overbridges and highways and adhere to the prescribed speed limits.

At present, the police have registered a case and initiated further action, and the families of the deceased are being informed.
