Honorarium of prisoners in jail increased, government gave answer in High Court

The matter of increasing the honorarium of jail inmates was heard in the High Court on Thursday. During this, the state government presented an affidavit in the High Court. In which it was told that the honorarium of both skilled and unskilled categories of prisoners is being increased. Let us tell you that senior BJP leader and former Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar had filed a PIL in the High Court demanding proper remuneration to the prisoners in the state’s jails. It was told in the petition that the prisoners are given remuneration of 60 to 75 rupees per day. This remuneration is being given to the prisoners for years, which cannot be said to be sufficient in today’s time.

They should be given wages like the collector rate, which can be useful in their life later. While hearing the case, the court had issued a notice to the state government and directed to submit the reply. On Thursday, the state government submitted an affidavit stating that the honorarium of prisoners lodged in the state’s jails is being increased. The honorarium of unskilled prisoners will be increased from Rs. 60 to Rs. 80 and that of the skilled category from Rs. 75 to Rs. 100 per day. The court was satisfied with the state government’s reply and dismissed the petition.
