Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai sentenced to 20 years in prison

Beijing: Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai has been sentenced to 20 years in prison. A Hong Kong local court has upheld the sentence. He is accused of committing a national security crime. China imposed the sentence under its controversial national security law. China says the sentence is necessary to ensure Hong Kong’s stability.

Jimmy Loy .. actually has British citizenship. But he fought against China. He wrote many articles against China with the Apple Daily newspaper. Six other former representatives who worked for that newspaper were also sentenced to prison. Each was sentenced to between six and 10 years. Loy is recognized as a leader of the pro-democracy movement. But China considers him a traitor.

Jimmy Loy, 78, has several cases against him. He wrote articles in his newspaper that China was pressuring the free city. Jimmy is accused of treason and conspiracy with foreign powers. He argued that the charges against him were not true. He was found guilty last December.
