Hisar: Administration turns a blind eye to mosquito breeding on plot

Hisar: A vacant plot of Haryana government has become a major cause of trouble for the residents of Prem Nagar in Hisar. People have turned this land into a dumping ground, which in turn has become a breeding ground for snakes, rats and mosquitoes, posing a threat to the residents of nearby areas. Ravinder Hooda, a resident of Prem Nagar near Kumhar Dharamshala, has written a letter to the district administration officials demanding immediate repair of the broken wall, which has opened up the entire land towards his locality. He said that the broken wall is also being used as an illegal path. He said, “This land has become a breeding ground for rats, reptiles and insects, which often enter our houses. With the monsoon approaching, we have to be vigilant round the clock to keep an eye on poisonous creatures entering our houses and endangering our families.” Hooda said that this land is also being used by many people to dump garbage and it is a den of alcoholics. He also said that they were ready to repair the damaged portion of the wall themselves but decided not to do so to avoid legal hassles as the land was government land. Other residents and shopkeepers in the area said they always had to be cautious, especially during rains as snakes enter the houses. The wall collapsed around three years ago but the concerned department, which was supposed to repair the wall, did not bother to re-erect it, which has become a problem for the residents. An official of the canal department said they would write to the Public Works Department (Buildings and Roads) and request them to repair the wall as soon as possible.
