Hindu Man Dies in Bangladesh After Jumping Into Canal to Escape Mob

Bangladesh: Another Hindu man died in Bangladesh. He jumped into a canal while fleeing as locals tried to attack him. The incident took place in Mohadevapur area of Naugaon district. The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Mithun Sarkar. According to the police, a group of locals chased Mithun Sarkar and tried to catch him on the pretext of stealing.
In this sequence, Mithun tried to escape and jump into a nearby canal to save himself. But, he lost his life by jumping into the canal. After receiving information, the police took out his body with the help of fire personnel and sent it for postmortem. It is known that attacks on minorities, including Hindus, have been taking place in Bangladesh in recent times. While these attacks have been going on since 2024, they have reached a peak since last month. In addition, attacks on Hindus have increased after the murder of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi there last month.
It is known that many Hindus like Deepu Chandra Das, Khokon Chandra Das, and Mani Chakraborty were attacked and killed by mobs there. According to the 2022 census, there are 13.1 million Hindus in Bangladesh. That is, 7.9 percent of the population there.
