Himanta Biswa Sarma Honored with ‘Gopal Ata Award’ in Bhabanipur

Assam: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was honored with the ‘Gopal Ata Award’ by the Bhawanipur Satra during his visit to Bhawanipur in the Bajali district on March 24.

Sarma participated in a ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra’ (People’s Blessing March) in the Bhawanipur area of the Sarbhog Assembly constituency, where he addressed a massive public gathering and interacted with supporters from atop his vehicle; during this interaction, he distributed ‘Gamosas’ to the people and received an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response from the crowd.

Exuding confidence ahead of the elections, the Chief Minister stated that the BJP candidate would secure a historic victory, emphasizing that public support lies squarely in favor of the party. He also launched a scathing attack on the Indian National Congress, thereby further intensifying the election campaign fervor in this constituency.

Emphasizing development-related pledges, Sarma gave an assurance that a flyover would be constructed in Bhawanipur. He further added that approximately 1.5 lakh bighas of Satra land have already been freed from encroachment, and an additional 500 bighas of land would be cleared of encroachments in the near future.

Addressing the issue of employment, Sarma reiterated the government’s plan to provide jobs to 2 lakh youths and to extend financial assistance of ₹2 lakh each to 10 lakh unemployed individuals.

In the Bhawanipur-Sarbhog (No. 21) Assembly constituency, the CPI(M)—an ally of the Congress—has fielded Manoranjan Talukdar as its candidate, while the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) has declared Farhad Ali as its nominee.

Representing the BJP, Ranjit Kumar Das is contesting the election, thereby setting the stage for a multi-cornered contest for this seat.

This visit underscores the BJP’s intensified election campaign in the Bajali district as Assam gears up for the upcoming Assembly elections.
