Himalayan serow deer rescued and returned to its habitat

A Himalayan serow (Capricomys sumatraensis) deer cub, rescued by local people in Tawang district, was on Wednesday returned to its habitat by Sokdam Tsokpa (ST), a local voluntary organisation. ST vice-president Pema Gombu said, “Some local people found the deer calf, which had strayed from its herd and was wandering on the roadside. He was trembling and scared and unable to run away.” “The local people had handed over the deer cub to our custody. There were no injuries. Perhaps it got separated from its herd due to heavy snowfall,” Gombu said. The volunteers of the organization provided shelter to the deer by feeding it bamboo leaves and waited for the snowfall to stop. On Wednesday morning they took the baby deer to a safe place, from where it was sent back to its residence without any harm.
