Himachal: Vaman Dwadashi fair brings Sarahan alive

Himachal Pradesh: Deputy Commissioner Sirmaur Priyanka Verma inaugurated the state level Vaman Dwadashi fair at Sarahan this morning with traditional rituals. After offering prayers at the Vaman Dev temple, she shouldered the palanquin of the Lord and took out a grand procession from the temple premises to the new bus stand. Thousands of devotees, NCC cadets, Home Guard bands and traditional music troupes joined the colourful procession which reflected the centuries-old cultural and spiritual heritage of the region. A unique attraction of the occasion was the ceremonial boat ride of the palanquin of Lord Vaman Dev on the central pond which witnessed huge crowd of devotees. Extending her best wishes on the auspicious occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that the Sarahan Vaman Dwadashi fair has a special identity among the traditional festivals of the district and is celebrated with reverence and gaiety by the people of entire Sirmaur. She said that this fair linked with the divine tradition of Lord Vishnu’s Vaman avatar has evolved over the decades as an event of cultural, spiritual and social significance. He said the three-day festival not only showcases the cultural richness of the region but also strengthens communal harmony and social bonds. The District Magistrate inaugurated various sports competitions on the first day of the fair and visited exhibitions put up by government departments, self-help groups and local entrepreneurs. He said these exhibitions provide a platform to showcase local products and innovations. He further said the fair generates business worth crores of rupees every year as visitors engage in festive shopping and local businesses flourish during the festival. He further announced that three cultural evenings will be organised during the fair in which local talents as well as renowned artists from outside the district will perform. He said these events will provide entertainment as well as promote traditional folk art and culture. With devotional fervour, sports events, cultural programmes and vibrant markets, Sarahan will be abuzz with festivities for the next three days.
