Protest against stadium on ground
Mandi: Members of the Panna Lal Raksha Memorial Charitable Trust staged a hunger strike at Seri Chanani in Mandi, opposing the construction of a proposed indoor stadium on the historically important Paddal ground. The protesters, led by trust chairman Rajesh Kapoor, stressed their support for the indoor stadium but objected to its location, citing the cultural significance and community utility of the ground. “The Paddal ground is an important place for the Shivratri fair and fitness activities. Developing it into a stadium will deprive the residents of this resource,” Kapoor said, urging MLA Anil Sharma to identify an alternate site that preserves the ground for future generations. Apart from opposing the stadium, the protesters demanded the restoration of the Sakodi bus stop, which serves 21 rural panchayats but was recently shifted to an inconvenient and unsafe location.
