Himachal: Two drug smugglers sentenced to 6 months’ imprisonment

Himachal Pradesh: The court of Additional Sessions Judge Sachin Raghu today sentenced two drug smugglers Upendra Verma and Rajiv Kumar to six months’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000 each. Assistant Public Prosecutor Vishal Deepak said that the smugglers have been convicted under sections 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act. The prosecutor said that on February 20, 2020, about 5.28 grams of heroin was recovered from the accused travelling in an XUV 500 car registration number HP-74A-9400. In this regard, FIR number 43/2020 was registered at Police Station Bhoranj in the district. The case was heard by Deputy District Attorney Rahul Chopra and Assistant Public Prosecutor Vishal Deepak on behalf of the State of Himachal Pradesh. Vishal Deepak said that in case of non-payment of the fine, the period of imprisonment will increase by three months, while both the sentences will run simultaneously.
