Himachal: Solar powered batteries and iron footbridge stolen

Himachal Pradesh: Incidents of theft in Tissa area of ​​Churah subdivision in Chamba district have left people worried and demanding immediate action from the police. A gang of thieves is reported to be active in the area, targeting solar batteries and also damaging infrastructure. At least 10 solar batteries installed in three panchayats – Jhajjakothi, Thanei Kothi and Kuther Budhaura – were stolen in the last few days. Besides, the pillars used to install these batteries were also damaged. Besides, the thieves broke parts of the iron bridge over Shaneda drain in Thanei Kohi panchayat and stole iron sheets, angles and other material. The bridge, built seven years ago, was of great importance to the locals, especially during monsoon when crossing the drain became difficult. The theft incident has once again forced people to grapple with accessibility issues.

The panchayat representatives have lodged a complaint with the police and demanded immediate action. The rising number of thefts in Churah has left people worried. Locals are demanding increased police patrolling and strict measures to nab the culprits, fearing further crime. They believe that without decisive action, such criminal activities will continue. Jhajjakothi pradhan Vipin Kumar said, “The thieves have stolen the batteries of the solar lights installed for the convenience of the people and also damaged the poles. A complaint has been lodged with the police and we demand strict action against the culprits.” Thanei Kothi panchayat pradhan Kuldeep said that the thieves stole the batteries of the solar street lights in his panchayat as well as the iron bridge. He said, “We have reported the matter to the police and sought immediate intervention. Given the rising number of thefts, we hope that the law enforcing agencies will step up efforts to restore security and prevent further incidents.”
