Himachal: Prosthetic limbs, assistive devices distributed to disabled persons
Himachal Pradesh: The district administration and the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment on Saturday organised a special programme at Beas Sadan in Mandi district to distribute prosthetic limbs and assistive devices to differently abled persons. The programme was presided over by Mandi Deputy Commissioner Apurv Devgan. A total of 64 differently abled persons from Sadar Mandi, Balh and Sundernagar tehsils were given 127 assistive devices worth around Rs 8.14 lakh. These devices included wheelchairs, hearing aids, tricycles, prosthetic limbs, calipers and other assistive devices to aid in daily activities. These devices were provided under the ADIP (Assistance for Purchase/Fitting of Aids and Appliances to Disabled Persons) scheme through Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), an authorised agency of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The recipients were selected based on a survey conducted by ALIMCO to ensure that the devices were tailored to their specific needs. The DC said that special camps are being organized in all sub divisions to provide necessary aids to Divyang persons in line with the guidelines of the State Government. He thanked ALIMCO and IDBI Bank, Mandi for their cooperation in the distribution. He reiterated the commitment of the State Government to empower Divyang persons and integrate them into the mainstream by providing them assistive aids and prosthetic limbs to lead a normal life. District Welfare Officer Sameer spoke about various welfare schemes being implemented by the State Government through the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment for the benefit of Divyang persons and others. Prosthetic limb specialist of ALIMCO, Puneet Dhar Dubey, Assistant General Manager of IDBI Bank, Nitin Agarwal and family members of the beneficiaries were present in the programme.
