Himachal: Police seized 381 illegally grown opium plants, owner arrested

Himachal Pradesh: To curb illegal cultivation of opium, Baga police yesterday seized 381 illegally grown opium plants from a villager in Darlaghat area. Giving information today, Solan SP Gaurav Singh said that during patrolling yesterday evening, the police received information that Avtar Singh, a resident of Kandar, has illegally cultivated opium on the land in front of his house.
Acting on the information, the police raided the field of the said person and recovered 381 illegally grown opium plants from there. After this, a case was registered under section 18 of the Narcotics Act at Baga police station and Avtar Singh (50) was arrested. The police produced him in the court today to take him on remand. During investigation, it was found that a case of assault is also registered against him at Darlaghat police station and the matter is under investigation.
