Himachal: International Day of Older Persons celebrated

Himachal Pradesh: A district-level program was organized in Chamba on Wednesday to mark the International Day of Older Persons. Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal presided over the function. Honoring senior citizens, Repaswal emphasized that they are an invaluable asset to society and that their experiences will continue to inspire the younger generation. Repaswal stated that the district administration is committed to timely redressal of senior citizens’ grievances. He directed departmental officials to be sensitive to their rights and welfare. Highlighting their invaluable knowledge, he stated that the experiences of senior citizens can bring positivity to society and play a vital role in promoting good governance. The Deputy Commissioner requested the Senior Citizens Forum to provide a list of members willing to share their expertise for community service.
He announced that a bi-weekly AYUSH OPD will be started at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College, Chamba. He also assured a ban on cricket and similar games between 6 pm and 8 pm at the historic Chaugan Ground, and a ban on parking of two-wheelers near Chaugan Mor. He said that efforts are underway to improve transportation facilities from the district headquarters to areas like Bharmour Chowk, Karia, Sultanpur, Balu, etc. for public convenience. Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner honored senior citizens by presenting them mufflers and caps. District General Secretary of All India Senior Citizens Forum, S.K. Gupta, placed various demands and issues of senior citizens before the administration. Acting District Welfare Officer, Raj Bahadur, welcomed the participants and informed them about various welfare schemes. Kumari Taramani and Kumari Diksha, students of Prime Minister Shri Government Senior Secondary Girls School, Chamba, also addressed the gathering. The Deputy Commissioner also honored the senior citizens.
