High Court employee sentenced to 7 years

Bilaspur. Jyoti Yadav, the newly married wife of Arvind Yadav, a stenographer posted in the High Court, committed suicide on the night of October 5-6, 2020, fed up with the harassment of her in-laws. Jyoti’s family had accused husband Arvind Yadav, mother-in-law Kusum Yadav, father-in-law Rajaram Yadav and sister-in-law Vandana Yadav of inciting her to commit suicide and constantly harassing her for demanding a car. The court has sentenced the accused husband to seven years of imprisonment and mother-in-law, father-in-law and sister-in-law to two years of imprisonment and a fine of one thousand rupees each.

Jyoti Yadav, daughter of Balaram Yadav, a resident of Saini Chakmanikpur in Kaushambi district of Uttar Pradesh, was married to Arvind Yadav posted in the Chhattisgarh High Court in the year 2020. At the time of marriage, Jyoti’s father gave 11 lakh cash and other gifts. Despite this, the in-laws demanded a four-wheeler Swift Dzire. When this demand was not met, the entire family started torturing Jyoti physically and mentally.

The torture continued even after giving explanations, due to which Jyoti committed suicide. During the hearing of the case in the court of the third additional session judge, the evidence presented by the prosecution and the medical examination proved that Jyoti Yadav was being constantly beaten and mentally tortured for not fulfilling the demand of the car. Arvind Yadav’s mother Kusum, father Rajaram and sister Vandana also tortured her. Jyoti’s father Balaram Yadav told the court that during the marriage, he had given 11 lakhs to his daughter’s in-laws. Apart from this, money was also transferred to the mother-in-law’s account, yet Jyoti was constantly tortured.
