Heavy rains to lash state, nine districts on alert

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that there is a possibility of heavy rain to lash some parts of the state today. Yellow alert has been sounded in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Idukki, Kannur and Kasaragod today. The Meteorological Center also said that there is a possibility of heavy rain on Sunday. Rain warning has been announced in 12 districts on Sunday. Orange alert has been declared in northern districts on Saturday.

The IMD issued a warning this morning that there is a possibility of light to moderate rain at isolated places in other districts except Kasaragod. Cyclonic circulation is located over the central western Bay of Bengal and Andhra coast. Another cyclonic circulation is located above Rayalaseema.

Strong winds are also likely over Kerala coast and west/southwest coast on June 21 and 22. As a result, widespread rain is likely over Kerala on June 21 and 22 and heavy rain at isolated places on June 18 to 20. Meanwhile, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center has warned that there is a possibility of rough seas and high waves along the Tamil Nadu coast till 11.30 pm tomorrow.

As rough seas are likely to intensify, it is advised to stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities and keep fishing vessels safely tied up in the harbor. Tourists are advised to avoid trips to the beach and activities in the sea.
