Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Arun Saw has described the decision of the Central Government to reduce the prices of 37 essential life-saving medicines by 10 to 15 percent as a “big and historic decision in public interest”. He said that this decision taken under the visionary and public welfare leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will prove to be a relief for the poor, workers, farmers, tribals and the elderly. The medicines whose prices have been reduced by the government include life-saving medicines related to heart disease, diabetes, infection, fever and pain like paracetamol, atorvastatin, amoxicillin. Deputy Chief Minister Saw said that this decision will directly benefit crores of people of the country who were deprived of treatment due to expensive medicines. Especially in states like Chhattisgarh, where a large number of tribals, rural and economically weaker sections reside, this step will act as a “health protection shield”. He also said that providing affordable and quality medicines through Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendras has been the top priority of the government. The expansion of these centers will ensure that affordable medicines reach every needy person. Along with this, the effective implementation of Ayushman Bharat Yojana and strengthening of basic health services in government hospitals will provide more relief to the general public. He said that this decision will reduce the burden on the pockets of people living especially in rural areas and they will get the facility of treatment without financial worries.
