HC orders judicial inquiry into the death of farmer Shubhakaran Singh

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday ordered a judicial inquiry into the death of farmer Shubhakaran Singh, who died during a clash between farmers and Haryana security personnel at the Khanauri border last month.

A division bench of Acting Chief Justice GS Sandhwalia and Justice Lupita Banerjee was hearing petitions related to the farmers’ movement.
Advocate Uday Pratap Singh, who is also the petitioner in the case, said the court has ordered a judicial inquiry into the death of Shubhakaran Singh.

He said the investigation would be conducted by a retired HC judge and two ADGP rank officers from Punjab and Haryana.
On February 21, 21-year-old Shubhakaran, a native of Bathinda, was killed and 12 police personnel were injured in a clash at Khanauri border point on the Punjab-Haryana border. The incident occurred when some protesting farmers were trying to move towards the barricade.
The Punjab government has already registered a case of murder in zero FIR in the matter.

The protesting farmers are stuck at Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana after their “Delhi Chalo” march was stopped by security forces.
They started their march on February 13 but were stopped by security forces, leading to clashes at Shambhu and Khanauri border points on the Haryana-Punjab border.
