Haryana bought 12 times more paddy than Punjab at MSP
Haryana: The government has given a big relief to farmers by procuring paddy at a rate 12 times higher than Punjab under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme. So far, Haryana has procured 1,18,763 metric tonnes of paddy, while Punjab has procured only 9,433 metric tonnes. According to an official spokesperson, a total of 4,37,775 metric tonnes of paddy has arrived in various mandis across the state till October 4. Out of this, 1,18,763 metric tonnes have been procured by government agencies. More than 15,000 farmers have received about Rs 12.85 crore for their produce directly into their bank accounts.
Paddy procurement to continue till November 15: A spokesperson of the Food Supplies Department informed that several government agencies are involved in the ongoing paddy procurement process, which will continue till November 15, 2024. Paddy is being procured at MSP rate, in which the price has been fixed at Rs 2,300 per quintal for normal paddy and Rs 2,320 per quintal for grade-A paddy. Procurement is being done at around 241 centres across the state and instructions have been issued to accept paddy with up to 17% moisture. Kurukshetra leads in paddy procurement: The department spokesperson also informed that Kurukshetra district has procured the highest amount of paddy till date, i.e. 40,227 metric tonnes. In other districts, 28,116 metric tonnes of paddy was procured in Yamunanagar, 10,774 metric tonnes in Karnal, 3,436 metric tonnes in Kaithal, 30,149 metric tonnes in Ambala and 5,424 metric tonnes in Panchkula.
