Former CID chief PV Sunil Kumar’s suspension extended

The AP government has extended the suspension of senior IPS officer PV Sunil Kumar. As per Rule 3(3) of the All India Services Rules 1969, the government considered it inappropriate to continue in service as the charges against him were serious. It is in this context that his suspension has been extended. An order has been issued to this effect. The order states that this suspension will continue till the completion of the criminal case or retirement, whichever is earlier.

Sunil Kumar is a 1993 batch IPS officer of AP cadre. He served as the CID chief during the YSRCP regime. A case was registered at Guntur Nagarampalem police station two years ago on allegations of custodial torture against then Narasapuram MP Raghurama Krishnaraju. This crime number 187/2024 case is under investigation. Since this case is directly related to his service status, the government feels that if he is taken into service, the evidence may be affected. In this context, orders have been issued suspending him.
