For the first time in India, a 33.33 meter long U-Bahn is being installed on the Chennai Metro line

Tamil Nadu :For the first time in India, the Metro Rail Administration has installed a 33.33 m long U-shaped track on Metro Rail Line 5.

The press release issued by the Metro Railway Administration states the following:

Chennai Metro to launch India’s first 33.33 m long U-Baan

The Metro Rail Administration has established private sector participation in the construction of the Rampuram section of Phase 2 on Route 5. This is not only a historic engineering achievement in Indian metro construction but also a milestone in Indian infrastructure. This is a first in the history of Indian metro rail projects.

Weighing 225 metric tonnes, the U-boat is a significant engineering achievement and a testimony to the technical proficiency, innovation and execution skills of the construction team.

Usually, long steel girders are used at traffic junctions and U-turns to meet future traffic requirements. However, at this location, which is located opposite the L&T headquarters, an attempt was made to use long U-girders instead of steel.

This is the longest U-Bahn in Indian metropolises. It is also attractive to look at. The project involved designing the U-Bahn axles, transporting them safely and installing them correctly.

These were challenging tasks.

The work was successfully completed in all three spans. Two carts were installed in each span. It is said that a total of 6 U-carts of 33.33 meters length have been installed.
