Five-year-old girl raped in Odisha
Deogarh: In a shocking and shameful incident, a five-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a youth under Deogarh Model Police station jurisdiction in Odisha.
One Udit Patra, who works as a carpenter in Gandhinagar of Gujarat, was reportedly attending a religious programme last night when he saw the minor girl. Soon, he managed to take the girl to a roadside lonely place and allegedly sexually assaulted her.
However, after the victim started screaming, some locals rushed to the spot, rescued the girl, caught hold of Udit and thrashed him before handing him over to the police.
Later, police admitted Udit Patra at Deogarh District Headquarter Hospital for treatment. Besides, they registered a case against the accused under the BNS and POCSO Act following a written complaint by the girl’s family members.
As part of investigation process, police recorded the statements of the girl and her parents and sent her to the hospital for medical examination.
Originally, Patra is a resident of Baliroi village under Barkote police station limits of the district and he had gone on a visit to the victim’s village, where his maternal uncle lives.
While further probe by the police into the matter is underway, the girl’s family along with the local residents demanded stringent action against the accused.
