Five samples found substandard in food safety inspection, corrective instructions issued to traders

Sarangarh-Bilaigarh. A fresh round of repeated inspections to ensure food safety and quality was conducted in Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district, Chhattisgarh. On September 24, 2025, food was inspected at various hotels and restaurants in the Barmerkala area. Senior Food Officer Sudha Chaudhary and Sample Assistant Varun Patel collected a total of 68 food samples through the MFTL (Micro Food Test Lab).
Purpose and Procedure of the Inspection
The primary objective of the inspection was to ensure that food products conformed to standard quality and safety parameters. During the inspection, samples were collected from major hotels and restaurants such as Vijay Hotel, Sahu Kirana Stores, Shri Radhe Family Restaurant, Patel Food Hub, Vidhi Restaurant, Ajay Bhojanalaya, Jagmati Hotel, Patel Chaat Center, and Nandani Chaat Center. All samples were tested in the MFTL lab. Five samples were found to be substandard, while two were found to be counterfeit. The sale and storage of substandard food items was immediately prohibited and destroyed.
Corrective and Safety Instructions
The inspection team also provided the relevant merchants with necessary instructions regarding food safety and hygiene. These included:
Using hand gloves and headcaps when preparing food.
Storing food in clean, hygienic water.
Ensuring food is kept covered.
Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the establishment.
During the inspection, the used oil and samples were also inspected. This included:
3 liters of oil from Patel Food Hub,
20 liters of oil from Vidhi Restaurant,
2 kg of oil from Vijay Hotel,
Momos from Patel Food Hub were destroyed after being found substandard.
Food Safety Awareness
During the inspection, officials warned merchants about the importance of food safety and the health of customers. Officials explained that cleanliness and adherence to standards are not only legally required, but also essential for customer safety and business credibility.
