Five men arrested for hacking to death Dalit youth near Pallikaranai

In a tragic incident in Chennai, a 26-year-old Dalit youth named G Praveen was brutally murdered by a five-member gang near a bar in Pallikaranai on Saturday night. The police swiftly responded, arresting all five individuals the following morning. However, the motive behind the murder remains uncertain as the police have not yet confirmed whether it was an honor killing.

Praveen, a resident of Pallikaranai, had reportedly defied societal norms by marrying a woman from a different caste against the wishes of her parents. The primary suspect in this case happens to be the elder brother of Praveen’s wife.

While investigating the incident, authorities have also considered another possible angle. It is speculated that Praveen might have been targeted due to his alleged involvement in a murder back in 2022. It’s suggested that one of the assailants from Saturday night’s attack might have sought revenge for the previous crime.

Following the assault, Praveen was rushed to Chromepet Government Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The police promptly registered a case, leading to the arrest of the five suspects, including the girl’s brother.

The case has garnered significant attention, highlighting the complexities surrounding inter-caste marriages and the persistent threat of violence that individuals face for defying societal norms. As investigations continue, authorities aim to unravel the true motives behind this tragic incident.
