Five cow vigilantes arrested for killing a person carrying cattle

Bengaluru (IANS) | Five cow vigilantes, including the main accused Puneet Kerehalli, who allegedly lynched a man for allegedly taking away cows and buffaloes, were arrested on Wednesday. The absconding accused has been arrested by the Sathanur police from Rajasthan. According to sources, the accused were absconding for the last five days. The police nabbed them after collecting concrete information.

Led by Puneeth Kerehalli, the group had intercepted a canter carrying cows and buffaloes in Ramanagara district’s Sathanur police station limits on March 31. They had claimed that cows and buffaloes were being taken away illegally.

However, on April 1, 35-year-old Idris Pasha, a resident of Guttalu near Sathanur, who was traveling in a canter, was found dead on the spot. Pasha’s family alleged that Kerehalli and others beat him to death.

The family had filed a complaint in this regard under sections 341, 504, 506, 324, 302, 34 of the IPC. The accused absconded after the complaint was lodged. Ramanagara SP Karthik Reddy then formed four teams to nab him. Further investigation is on.
