Fishing harbor built at a cost of 98 crore: CM inaugurates it.
Tamil Nadu: Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday inaugurated upgraded fishing harbors, fish landing platforms, and a new fish seed farm in Tamil Nadu, built at a cost of ₹98.92 crore.
In a video conference held at the Chennai Secretariat, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated four completed projects totaling ₹98.92 crore, including additional infrastructure facilities at the Thengapattinam fishing harbor in Kanyakumari district at a cost of ₹60 crore, an improved fish landing platform with a fodder arch in Periyanayaki Street fishing village at a cost of ₹26 crore, an improved fishing harbor in Tharangambadi, Mayiladuthurai district at a cost of ₹10 crore, and a government fish seed farm established in Kadana village, Tenkasi district at a cost of ₹2.92 crore.
The 375-meter-long boat jetty and platform, 110-meter-long boat dock, fish auction house, fish processing house, cold storage facility, canal bridge, and road at the Thengapattinam fishing harbor in Kanyakumari district will benefit 68,300 fishermen. 850 powerboats and 4,800 country boats can be safely docked there.
The construction of a 235-meter-long fodder ramp and net-making shed at the Periyanayaki Street fish landing site in Kanyakumari district will benefit 13,021 fishermen. 235 motorized boats and 6 national boats can be safely parked there.
The construction of a 350-meter-long boat embankment and jetty, an additional fish auction hall, an additional net-making hall, a fish landing platform, and a road at the Tharangambadi fishing harbor in Mayiladuthurai district will benefit 6,073 fishermen. 45 motorboats and 310 fiberglass boats can be safely moored.
The Kadana Government Fish Seed Farm in Tenkasi district has been equipped with fish breeding tanks and other infrastructure facilities, resulting in the production of 5 lakh fish fingerlings annually.
It was stated that this is being done to boost inland fisheries. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Minister for Fisheries, Fishermen Welfare and Animal Husbandry Anita R. Radhakrishnan, Chairman of Tamil Nadu Fisheries Development Corporation N. Gowthaman, Chairman of Tamil Nadu Fishermen Welfare Board A. Joseph Stalin, Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, Secretary for Animal Husbandry, Dairying, Fisheries and Fishermen Welfare N. Subbaiyan, Director of Fisheries Department K.V. Muralidharan, and others participated in the event.
