Fired IAS officer resigns, cites lack of work and being sidelined

Lucknow: An IAS officer who was fired on the first day of posting has taken a key decision. He resigned. He alleged that he was not given adequate opportunities to work and was sidelined. (Rinku Singh Rahi) Rinku Singh Rahi, a 2022 batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, took charge as the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Shahjahanpur district in July 2025. On the first day of joining duty, he inspected the compound premises. He noticed the garbage there and some people urinating in the open.
Meanwhile, on this occasion, Rinku Singh Rahi took out his gunjis with a lawyer. The lawyers protested against this public punishment. With this, the IAS officer tried to calm the tensions. He went to the protesting lawyers and apologized. Moreover, he took out his gunjis by punishing himself, saying that the officers also have a responsibility.
On the other hand, a video related to this incident went viral on social media. In this context, the government transferred IAS officer Rinku Singh Rahi to the Revenue Council. Since then, he has been working as an associate of the Revenue Council. He alleged that he was sidelined and not given adequate opportunities to work. In this context, he resigned. It is learnt that he alleged that a ‘parallel system’ was also operating along with the constitutional framework.
Meanwhile, Rinku Singh Rahi has acted boldly and aggressively in the past too. In 2009, when he was working as a social welfare officer in Muzaffarnagar, he brought to light a scam of Rs. 83 crore. Immediately after that, he was attacked and shot several times. Although he feared for his life from the firing, he suffered serious injuries to his face.
However, Rinku Singh Rahi continued in public service. He earned a reputation as an honest and determined officer and was transferred several times. Before joining the IAS, he served in the State Civil Services. While in service, he cleared the UPSC examination.
