Finance Minister: Ready to explore more ways to enhance cooperation with IMF

BUSINESS: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said during a meeting with IMF First Deputy Managing Director Gita Gopinath that India is open to exploring more ways to enhance cooperation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). During the meeting, Gopinath congratulated the finance minister on the policy continuity in the fiscal consolidation path being followed by the Indian government. “FM Smt @nsitharaman noted that India attaches great importance to its relationship and continued engagement with the IMF; and looking to the future, the Government of India is open to exploring more ways to enhance India’s cooperation with the IMF,” the finance ministry said in a post on X.

Apart from acknowledging the vibrancy of the Indian economy, Gopinath appreciated the strength of India’s relationship with the IMF – which is valuable to both India, the IMF and the world. “@GitaGopinath congratulates the Union Finance Minister on policy continuity in the fiscal consolidation path being pursued by the Government of India. And looking to the future, the Government of India stands ready to explore further ways to enhance India’s cooperation with the IMF,” the ministry said in the post.
