Guwahati: The Assam State Cooperative Federation on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding with the Bharatiya Beej Sahakari Samiti Limited (BBSSL) to improve access to quality agricultural inputs and reinforce the cooperative sector in the state, officials said.
With the agreement, Assam became the 14th state to formalise a partnership with BBSSL. The MoU provides for a cooperative-driven system for the production, procurement and distribution of quality seeds across the state to boost farm productivity and create additional income avenues for farmers and cooperative bodies.
Officials said the tie-up will facilitate the supply of certified, high-quality seeds to farmers at affordable rates and help bridge the existing gap in seed availability.
The partnership envisages coordinated planning, technical assistance and organised distribution to strengthen the seed supply chain and ensure timely delivery of improved planting material across Assam’s varied agro-climatic zones.
The MoU also places emphasis on empowering grassroots cooperatives and farmers by integrating them more closely into the agricultural value chain.
Officials said the collaboration underscores the principle of cooperation among cooperatives, with national and state-level institutions working together to promote sustainable agricultural growth in Assam.
