Famous cameraman arrested with drugs, goods worth Rs 55 lakh seized
Gujarat. Surat Crime Branch has taken major action in the case of drug smuggling and arrested two people including a Nigerian citizen from Nalasopara in Mumbai. MD drugs worth Rs 55 lakh were recovered from them. Earlier on November 16, the Crime Branch had arrested three accused from Kapletha check post in Surat, on whose information this action was taken. Police is investigating the wires connected to the international drugs network.
According to the information, Surat Crime Branch had caught three accused with 554.82 grams of MD drugs near Kapletha check post in Surat city on the morning of 16 November 2024. Its value was said to be Rs 55 lakh 48 thousand 200. Goods worth Rs 58 lakh 71 thousand 950 including Rs 53 thousand 750 cash and car were seized from them. After this, two people including a Nigerian man were arrested from Nalasopara in Mumbai. Of the three accused arrested by Surat Crime Branch, one is named Irfan Khan Mohammad Khan Pathan and the other is named Mohammad Tausif Mohammad Rafiq Shah. The third accused is Ashfaq Irshad Qureshi. These three people were coming to Surat from Mumbai in a Honda City car. Surat Crime Branch arrested them near Kapletha check post.
The Crime Branch has also arrested Ajay Thakur, an absconding accused in the drugs case, and David Uche Prince, originally from Nigeria. Nigerian citizen David Uche has already been arrested in a fraud case and has also spent four years in jail. Surat Crime Branch DCP Bhavesh Rojia said that when the three people arrested by the Crime Branch were interrogated, the names of two more accused came to light, who were arrested from Mumbai. Now they are being interrogated. In the year 2015, a Nigerian man was arrested on charges of fraud. The Nigerian citizen has been living in India for the last 10 years. It is yet to be verified on which visa he is living. The arrested accused Ajay Thakur works as a rent collector in Nalasopara area. Apart from this, Ajay Thakur also worked as a cameraman in film shoots. A Nigerian man lives near Ajay, due to whom both of them got acquainted.
