ERODE: Elephant dies due to electric shock in Anthiyur forest

Erode: Forest officials on Wednesday confirmed that a tragic incident took place in Anthiyur forest area when a 12-year-old male elephant died due to electrocution. The dead body of the elephant was spotted by villagers in Karumparai forest area near Thooka Naicken Palayam on Tuesday evening. A team of forest officials immediately rushed to the spot for investigation.

Initial suspicion points towards the electric fence installed by farmers to protect their crops. It is believed that the elephant might have inadvertently come in contact with the electric wire while searching for water and food, leading to its untimely death. The exact cause will be confirmed after the post-mortem scheduled on Wednesday.
