Engineering, arts and science courses: Frustration leads to pile-up of applications

Tamil Nadu : A large number of students are applying for admission to engineering, arts and science courses in Tamil Nadu. So far, 2.40 lakh people have applied for admission to engineering courses under the government quota, and over 2 lakh people have applied for admission to undergraduate courses in government arts and science colleges. Online application registration for admission to government quota seats in B.E. and B.Tech. courses has been going on since May 7. As of Saturday evening, 2,40,754 candidates have registered their applications online. Of them, 1,73,005 have paid the application fee. 1,30,262 have also uploaded the required certificates, said Prof. Purushothaman, secretary of Tamil Nadu Engineering Students Association. As already announced by the Directorate of Technical Education, the last date to apply online for engineering courses is June 6. Students who have not yet applied for engineering courses can apply online till June 6. Similarly, it is noteworthy that more than 2 lakh students have applied so far for admission in government arts and science colleges. The Higher Education Department has said that students wishing to join undergraduate courses in government arts and science colleges can apply online till May 27.
