Employees ran away without closing the bank door: 50 lakhs saved due to SI’s action

Tamil Nadu : Employees left the wooden door of the State Bank of India located on Avadi’s C.D.H. Road without locking it. The police sub-inspector patrolling at midnight noticed it and fled with Rs 50 lakh in cash. On Wednesday at around 12.15 pm, Assistant Inspector Shivkumar of Avadi Crime Branch was patrolling on Avadi C.D.H. Road. At that time the lock of the front wooden door and iron door of the State Bank of India (SBI) located there was open. Seeing this, Sub-Inspector Shivkumar was shocked and he informed the senior police officers and bank manager Bhupalan. After this, manager Bhupalan and employee Surendra reached the spot at around 12:30 pm and investigated. It was found that no untoward incident had taken place in the bank at that time. After this, when the police checked the footage of the bank’s surveillance cameras, it was found that the employees had left the lock of the front door open due to negligence. Due to the timely investigation by Sub-Inspector Shivkumar, cash worth about Rs 50 lakh kept in the bank was saved from being stolen. It is noteworthy that there are more than 3,000 public accounts in this branch.

Police Commissioner K. Shankar praised Sub-Inspector Shivkumar for his excellent performance during patrolling at midnight and preventing money from being stolen from the open bank.
