Elon Musk activates Community Notes in India ahead of elections

New Delhi: Elon Musk on Thursday said that his X platform has activated the Community Notes feature in India. It is a user-based fact-check program. It has been activated at a time when general elections are about to be held in the country. The Musk-owned social media platform also welcomed new contributors in India for its Community Notes feature. “Community Notes is now active in India,” the Tesla and SpaceX CEO wrote. The company said its first contributors in the country “are joining today, and we will expand over time”. “As always, we will monitor quality to ensure that the notes prove useful to people from a variety of perspectives,” X Platform said. Community Notes now has contributors in 69 countries around the world. “We are adding more (countries) regularly,” the Musk-run platform said. The company first launched this feature in December 2022. According to the company, “Community Notes aims to create a better-informed world by empowering people on X to add context to potentially misleading posts.” Contributors can leave notes on any post and if enough contributors from different viewpoints find that note useful, the note will be shown publicly on a post. “Any post containing a community note will not be labeled or removed by X unless it is found to violate X’s rules,” the company said.
