Electricity bill collector beaten up in Sanathnagar

Hyderabad: An electricity department employee was allegedly beaten up by a resident in Sanathnagar on Thursday after he asked him to pay dues. Two contractual employees of the electricity department, a line inspector and a meter reader, had gone to Kabir Nagar, Moti Nagar to check meter readings when the incident took place. While checking the meter reading at a house, the duo asked residents to pay pending electricity bills, which had mounted to over Rs 6,000 over the past several months. When the residents allegedly refused to pay the dues, the electricity employees disconnected the power supply to the house. Angered by the incident, the suspect argued with the electricity department employee and later punched him, injuring him. The video of the incident went viral on social media, drawing criticism from citizens. The Sanathnagar police are investigating.
