ELCOT MD Anish Shekhar resigns

Chennai: Dr S Aneesh Shekhar (38), an IAS officer with more than 12 years of service as a civil servant, has resigned from his post. His resignation was accepted and he was relieved from service on Thursday. Sources said that he has resigned due to personal reasons. Shekhar could not be reached for comment.

Shekhar, who hails from Kerala, is a doctor by profession. During his tenure as a civil servant he held several positions. Known as an honest officer, his tenure as Collector of Madurai District was one of his memorable assignments. Sekhar had also served as the Commissioner of Madurai Corporation.

As Madurai Collector, Shekhar once advised all government employees to go to their office by bicycle at least once a week to spread awareness about the impact of climate change and other environmental concerns. He also set an example by reaching the Collectorate on bicycle. While participating in the National Voters’ Day last year, Shekhar had said that the youth should contest elections instead of just remaining voters.

In his early days, Shekhar served as a sub-collector in Salem district. He held some key positions in the Commercial Taxes and Revenue Department besides serving in the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu and Guidance Tamil Nadu and Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation. When Shekhar resigned, he was the managing director of ELCOT.
In recent years many IAS officers have opted for VRS. These include Vijay Maruti Pingale, Santosh Babu, U Sagayam, Santosh K Mishra and Jagmohan Singh Raju. Interestingly, Santosh Babu, after leaving his civil services career, joined actor Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam in 2020 and unsuccessfully contested the 2021 assembly elections from Velachery. However, within six months, Santosh Babu left MNM due to personal reasons. Shambhu Kalloikar took VRS in November 2022 and contested the Karnataka Assembly elections last year.
