Egg prices likely to rise further: NECC

Tamil Nadu : National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) Namakkal regional president K. Singraj said that egg prices will increase further in the coming days, as egg consumption is increasing in Kerala due to monsoon season and eggs are needed for nutrition program due to opening of schools.
The Namakkal Zone Poultry Farmers-Egg Traders Meeting of National Egg Coordination Committee was held in Namakkal on Saturday. The meeting was chaired by Tamil Nadu Poultry Farmers Association president and Namakkal zone president of National Egg Coordination Committee K. Singraj.
Discussions were held with poultry farmers regarding the status of daily egg production in Namakkal region, purchase price, increase in feed prices and traders buying eggs at low price.
The small farmers alleged that they are not getting the right price, traders are not buying eggs at the price fixed by NECC. To this, the officials of National Egg Coordination Committee responded.
After this, Namakkal regional president of National Egg Coordination Committee K. Singaraj told reporters:
In India, the farm procurement price of eggs in Namakkal region alone is increasing by 50 to 80 paise. Currently, the price of one egg has been fixed at Rs 5.60. 80 lakh eggs are exported to various countries per day.
Due to the southwest monsoon in Kerala, the consumption of eggs has increased among the people there. As government schools are opening, 60 lakh eggs will be sent per day for the nutrition programme. As the fishing ban is in effect, eggs are also meeting the needs of fish consumption. Due to this, egg prices may increase further in the coming days.
However, the price of feed component soya has come down, but the price of maize has increased. Maize is used 60 per cent in the production of feed ingredients. There is no irregularity in the determination of egg prices. The National Egg Coordination Committee is determining prices on a daily basis with transparency.
