Drug network busted in Manipur, NCB and Assam Rifles seized heroin worth Rs 15 crore

Imphal: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), with the assistance of the Assam Rifles, arrested two alleged drug smugglers in Manipur on Wednesday.
Officials said the team seized over 7.3 kg of heroin, valued at approximately ₹15 crore in the international market, and busted a drug trafficking module originating from Myanmar.
Acting on specific intelligence input, the joint team intercepted a four-wheeler near the Manipur-Myanmar border and recovered 7.31 kg of heroin concealed in 638 plastic soap cartons.
Officials said preliminary investigations revealed that the consignment originated from the Hychin area of Myanmar, and the smugglers transported the drugs through dense forest routes into Manipur, bypassing regular police surveillance and established checkpoints.
The arrested persons were later identified as Ginkhawmlian and Mangboi Simte, both residents of Mata village in the Multam area of Churachandpur district in Manipur. Officials said the two accused, along with the seized drugs, were produced in court for further legal action under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
