Drug-free campaign launched in Lawngtlai, Mizoram, focus on border areas

Mizoram: A major step against drug abuse has been taken in Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district. The district administration launched a “drug-free” campaign on April 10th, which will run for the next three years. The primary objective of this campaign is to control the drug problem in the areas bordering Myanmar and protect youth from its ill effects.

According to information, this initiative has been launched under the Central Government’s “Drug-Free India Campaign.” The administration states that given the geographical location of Lawngtlai district, drug-related activities require special attention, as the district is located close to the international border.

According to officials, this campaign includes awareness programs, school and college-level campaigns, community engagement, and rehabilitation efforts. Local communities are also being actively involved in this initiative to ensure widespread impact.

Drug-related challenges have been significant in this area due to its location near the Myanmar border. The administration believes that these problems can be mitigated through constant monitoring and awareness. To this end, increased coordination between the police, health department, and other agencies is also being emphasized.

This three-year campaign includes plans to strengthen counseling and rehabilitation facilities for those affected by drug addiction. Furthermore, efforts will be made to encourage youth to engage in sports and other positive activities to stay away from drugs.

The Lawngtlai district administration states that the campaign will be implemented in phases and its progress will be reviewed periodically. To this end, committees are being formed at the local level to oversee the campaign’s implementation.

Under this initiative, awareness programs will be organized in schools, villages, and public places. Various mediums will be used to spread the message against drug addiction. The administration believes that this campaign can only be made successful with the participation of all sections of society.

Experts say that such campaigns are crucial in border areas, as both drug supply and consumption remain a challenge. In such a situation, only consistent efforts and strict monitoring can improve the situation.

Lawngtlai district has long been considered sensitive due to its border with Myanmar. Through this campaign, the administration not only aims to curb the spread of drug abuse but also works towards creating a healthy environment by raising awareness in society.

Currently, this three-year ‘drug-free’ campaign is being seen as a significant initiative in Mizoram. The administration hopes that it will yield positive results in the coming years and reduce the drug problem in the region.
