Drinking water development project for 19,343 households at a cost of ₹65 crore: Minister’s statement

Tamil Nadu: Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi has made the false claim that a drinking water development project costing ₹65 crore has been implemented for 19,343 households in the newly added areas of the Trichy Corporation.
The combined drinking water project and other safe drinking water supply projects implemented by the Trichy Corporation draw water from the Cauvery and Kollidam rivers. To this end, he inspected the ongoing main water collection and pumping station at Kambarasampettai on Wednesday. The minister consulted with corporation officials regarding the supply of safe drinking water to the people of his constituency, after which he stated:
With financial assistance from a German bank, a drinking water development project costing ₹63.70 crore has been launched to provide drinking water at a rate of 135 liters per person per day to the residents of the five old wards (61, 62, 63, 64, and 65) of Thiruverumbur Town Panchayat, Pappakurichi Panchayat, Yellakudi Panchayat, Keezhakalakandakottai Panchayat, and Alathur Panchayat, which were merged into the Trichy Corporation in 2011.
This project, which will be completed in two phases, will include the construction of a new main water collection well with a diameter of 6 meters and a depth of 18 meters in the Cauvery river basin in the first phase.
An overhead water tank with a capacity of 3.8 million liters has been constructed at this water supply station to provide drinking water to the public in wards 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, and 43. Accordingly, 211.711 km of drinking water distribution pipes and 21.556 km of main drinking water pipes have been laid to provide drinking water from overhead tanks in Pari Nagar (8 lakh liters), Pukkal Nagar (5 lakh liters), Yellakudi Old (1 lakh liter), Kaveri Nagar (5 lakh liters), Santhosh Nagar (8 lakh liters), Alathur (2 lakh liters), Ganesh Nagar (8 lakh liters), Ambedkar Nagar (1 lakh liter), and Old 3. So far, ₹64.95 crore has been spent on this project. Through this project, drinking water connections have been provided to 19,343 households, benefiting 88,054 people. He stated that steps have been taken to complete the project on time and make it operational for public use.
During the inspection, Corporation Zonal Committee Chairman M. Mathivanan, council members, and corporation officials were present.
