Doctors save life of woman suffering from liver failure

New Delhi: Doctors in Bengaluru successfully treated a 25-year-old woman suffering from liver failure due to dengue. Sonali (name changed) had gone to Bengaluru from Rajasthan to attend an event. During this time, she suddenly started feeling severe cold and her condition deteriorated very soon.

The woman was given 20 to 25 units of blood products in the initial treatment at the local hospital. She started having lung problems and swelling due to bleeding. After which doctors said that she may need a liver transplant. Dr. Ganju of Hepatology and Integrated Liver Care, Aster R.V. Hospital, said, “Looking at her condition, she was referred to the liver team at Aster R.V. Hospital. When Sonali was admitted, she was almost unconscious and many of her organs were affected. The first 48 to 72 hours were very crucial.”

The team paid close attention to her and gave her ‘liver regenerative therapy’ along with other treatments. Sonali regained consciousness within 48 to 72 hours after this treatment, which was a turning point in her recovery. The medical team paid close attention to her nutritional needs, giving essential vitamins and minerals through nasal tubes to support liver detoxification and metabolic function.

After six days in the ICU, she was shifted to the ward for recovery. “Sonali’s case was very critical and her recovery was nothing short of a miracle,” said Dr Romil, a member of the liver team.

Sonali expressed her gratitude and said, “I am very grateful to the doctors and staff who saved my life and reunited me with my baby.”
