Do not post photos in uniform on social media! – DGP’s order

Tamil Nadu : Tamil Nadu Director General of Police Shankar Jiwal has ordered senior officers not to post their pictures in uniform on social media. In this regard, he has said in a circular sent to senior police officers that the Superintendent of Police and above in the Tamil Nadu Police Department should not post their pictures in uniform on their personal social media pages. The Police Headquarters has received reports that police officers are participating in private events wearing uniform in violation of the Indian Civil Services Rules. Therefore, officers should avoid attending private events wearing uniform. Similarly, while giving interviews to television and YouTube channels, one should not talk about important matters, the information of those matters should be kept confidential. Do not share it with anyone. While participating in individual television shows and YouTube channel programs, the concerned officers should be informed in advance. They should give full information to their superiors about what they are going to talk about in the program and take permission. Officers should participate and speak in programs only after obtaining permission from higher officials. Similarly, they can give interviews in private programs only after obtaining permission from higher officials. These restrictions are in the Indian Civil Services Rules. Therefore, all the officers have to strictly follow these rules. It has been mentioned that in case of violation of the rules, action will be taken against the concerned officers as per the Indian Civil Services Rules.
